Our Primary Goal: Your Privacy

Welcome to the American Bar Endowment (ABE) Website! We are strongly committed to providing a clear, concise, and informative website to American Bar Association (ABA)/ABE members while at the same time, protecting the privacy of all visitors to the ABE Homepage. Throughout cyberspace, we want to contribute to providing a safe and secure environment for consumers. In fact, we want to set an example by openly and clearly stating our privacy policy to the public. For this reason, outlined below, you will find the specific terms of the ABE Privacy Policy. The same care is taken to protect the privacy of information received by mail, phone or facsimile.

How We Use Your Information

Any information that you provide to us or that we obtain about you, will not be sold or given to a non-affiliated third party without your consent.

Sometimes we may specifically ask for information about you, e.g. when you have requested information on one of our products or request the return of your dividends. This is done to enhance the information that we provide you or to more specifically/accurately address your request/question. We may need certain information, such as name, address, firm, and phone number, in order to provide that information or product to you. We may also use it to let you know about additional products in which you might be interested. If you do not choose to receive such communications, let us know when you submit the "Contact the ABE" e-mail.

When you complete any insurance application you are voluntarily providing nonpublic personal information (health and financial information about an individual that is not publicly available information). Information provided in connection with an insurance application is collected and maintained on our database and reviewed by us to determine membership and related eligibility for the insurance applied for. The application is forwarded to the insurance company that issues the coverage for the purpose of processing and underwriting your insurance application. When you submit information in an online insurance application, we use SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption technology to protect the information you submit. If you do not choose to have your information transmitted electronically, you can request a paper application from us, complete it manually, and forward the same to the ABE by mail or facsimile.

Please note that, as to internet use, this policy applies only to browsing at www.abendowment.org and the contents included within our site. We cannot ensure your privacy on other companies' or organizations' web sites to which we link. We collect information on which pages our users access within our website. This information is used solely for statistical studies to gather data such as the relative popularity of each of our pages or the average number of visitors per month.  Our only use of this information is to compile internal statistics and to help us improve our site.

Unless you tell us not to, we may share identifying information about you (such as your name and address) with our affiliates (i.e., entities within the ABA family). We may share this information with our affiliates for the purpose of their offering to you or considering you for products, services, or opportunities made available by other ABA entities which may be under a joint agreement with one or more financial institutions (where applicable). Federal law allows us to disclose the information listed above with our affiliates. You do not have a right to opt out of the disclosure of this information, however, if you do prefer that we not share information about you with entities within the ABA family, you may direct us not to share (opt out) by one of the methods described below.  We will process your request as soon as we reasonably can. If you have already directed us not to share, you do not need to opt out again. We may continue to share information about you with our affiliates as required or permitted by law.

Additions or Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes here so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information and whether we will disclose it to anyone.

Contacting the ABE

Whatever information you supply us when completing a "Contact the ABE" e-mail or by sending in an information request by mail or facsimile, will be used to facilitate your request, answer your inquiry or as described above. This includes your name, address, e-mail address, phone number, or any other information you supply. We will not rent or sell that information to any n on-affiliated third parties for any purposes. However, when you request product information and leave us a phone number, we assume that you are permitting phone contact from an ABE employee.
